Ontologies for Compound Discovery

Ontologies are explicit specifications of a topic including a vocabulary of terms and concepts with defined logical relationships to each other. Ontologies enable semantic data integration, data mining and knowledge generation. Ontologies may encompass data from multiple sources, providing a common framework for integrating isolated data in a domain. The development of biological and chemical ontologies are currently an area of intense research lead by public institutions.
